Mount Arjuno is one of the highest summits on the island of Java, with an elevation of 3,339 meters above sea level. It is a strato-volcano with around ten pyroclastic cones closely assembled together. The name Arjuno refers to a hero in the Mahabharata epic. The mountain has some hiking starting points, with Tretes being the most popular one. The trekkers will have to walk along the rocky paved road up until the hut that is used to depose the sulfur.
Mount Arjuno has a twin mountain named Welirang, which means sulfur in Javanese. Mt. Welirang has a lower elevation than its neighboring Mt. Arjuno, but beautiful active craters with high sulfur deposits. After having completed the trekking, you can take a hot bath at nearby hot springs to relax your muscle tensions.
