Mount Ciremai is the highest mountain in West Java with an altitude of 3,078 masl. At the summit of this symmetrical stratovolcano, there is wide caldera covering an area of nearly 25km square. Located in Majalengka and Kuningan districts, this volcano belongs to the active volcano category since 1600 but at the moment Ciremai is dormant. The last eruption took place in 1938.
According to local folklore this mountain is a hermitage of Sunan Gunung Jati, he is one of the big clerical group of Java or also known as Walisongo.
